UP govt to set up committee for MLAs salary hike

Lucknow, Mar 9 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today announced an increase in monthly pension of former MLAs and setting up of a committee for raising the salaries, allowances and area development fund of sitting MLAs.

He said that the monthly pension of former MLAs will be raised from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000, adding that those who do not have a government house will soon get one.

Yadav said a committee headed by Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey will be set up for increasing MLAs' salaries, allowances and area development fund.

The Chief Minister granted 100 hand pumps and re-boring of 100 others to every legislator besides 10 Lohia Awaas (housing for rural poor) in every assembly segment and repair of eight kms long road to them.

The House also passed the state budget for 2016-17 totaling Rs 3,60,797 crore, by voice vote besides passing the appropriation bill, before it was adjourned for the day.
