Bihar transfers controversial IPS officer

In a minor bureaucratic reshuffle, the state government shifted three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, including Araria Superintendent of Police (SP) Garima Malick, who was in the thick of controversy following police firing on a mob in June this year.

Patna: In a minor bureaucratic reshuffle, the state government shifted three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, including Araria Superintendent of Police (SP) Garima Malick, who was in the thick of controversy following police firing on a mob in June this year.

Garima Malick was in the firing line after the infamous police firing on a mob at Forbesganj. Separate teams of the National Human Rights Commission and the National Commission for Minority visited Araria to probe the police firing, which claimed the lives of four people, including an infant.

According to a notification issued by the Home (Police) Department, Patna City SP Shivdeep Lande has been made SP of Araria. Outgoing Araria SP Garima Malick has been appointed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Darbhanga.

Darbhanga SSP Vikas Vaibhav has been relieved for central deputation. Vaibhav has been drafted for Indian Investigating Agency (NIA). He will leave for central deputation soon.

Lande was in recently in the news for carrying out intensive raids on cyber caf and counterfeit goods in Patna particularly in the City areas. His abrupt transfer has stunned the residents of Patna.
