It will roll out Arms Information Software across the state to monitor licensed weapons
Chandigarh: Soon, Punjab will be able to monitor over 3.30 lakh licensed weapons in the state as it is all set to become the first state in the country to roll out Arms Information Software in all the districts and police commissionerate within one year.
“The main aim behind the project is to computerise the whole record of arms licensing system in the country and Punjab is the first state to implement this project," Ministry of Home Affairs Under Secretary Molay Sangal said.
He said the Ministry of Home Affairs had made it mandatory for all state police departments to make all record available online while issuing new licenses. Besides, old record of arms would be made available online in next three years.
“Punjab is going to have computerised and centralised data base in respect of all arms licenses issues in the state with the implementation of this software," Punjab Home Secretary Sameer Kumar said.
After the completion of this project it would be easy to trace the crime cases as well as to eliminate the corruption, he added.
There are 323,927 arms licensees in the state. The maximum number of licensed weapons in Punjab is 35,794 in Gurdaspur district.
