ESI scheme goes online in Jharkhand

Extension of medical facilities under the Employees State Insurance (ESI) schemes has gone online in Jharkhand. The biometric smart card would enable the insured persons and their families to avail medical and cash facilities offered by the corporation in any of the ESI dispensaries, designated hospitals or ESIC branches elsewhere in the country.

Ranchi: Extension of medical facilities under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) schemes has gone online in Jharkhand.

The ESI Corporation has launched biometric cards for its 1.75 lakh beneficiaries across the state. To start with, ESI Corp Regional Director RP Gupta launched the distribution of cards at Ranchi on Saturday.

The biometric smart card would enable the insured persons and their families to avail medical and cash facilities offered by the corporation in any of the ESI dispensaries, designated hospitals or ESIC branches elsewhere in the country.

As per the proposed plan, the corporation intends to distribute cards to all its beneficiaries in the state in the next couple of months. “Every beneficiary will have two cards—one for him and another for his family,” ESI Corporation Assistant Director (Jharkhand), Rajendra Tudu said.

Efforts are on to provide equal treatment to all its beneficiaries across the country. Database of each of the 1.20 crore individuals covered under the ESI schemes are being compiled in a centralised server in New Delhi.

Gupta said that all IP (insured person) would be issued with two magnetic cards, one for the IP and the other for family members. Central database will be created with demographic and biometric details of IP and their families.

The card will also allow the employers to submit their return of contribution online. Employers can collect information on employees benefit availed by respective employees online.

The employers, however, require one time registration to carry forward with same set of cards every time they change employment, Tudu said.
