A week after the former Director General of Police Neyaz Ahmad quit the Jharkhand State Staff Selection Commission (JSSSC), the State government has appointed retired Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) CR Sahay as the new Chairman of the recruitment body. Neyaz quit the post after 20 days of his appointment, citing absence of working atmosphere and staff constraints.

Ranchi: A week after the former Director General of Police Neyaz Ahmad quit the Jharkhand State Staff Selection Commission (JSSSC), the State government has appointed retired Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) CR Sahay as the new Chairman of the recruitment body.

In its bid to tone up the functioning of various departments by way of filling up the vacancies, the State government had for the first time appointed Ahmad as a full-fledged chairman last month. But, he quit the post after 20 days of his appointment, citing absence of working atmosphere and staff constraints.

Taking the practical problems highlighted by Ahmad, the Personnel and Administrative Reforms department on Friday notified appointment of a retired officer of the State administrative service Vimal Chaudhary as the member of the JSSSC along with Sahay.

“There was no meaning of appointment of only a Chairman of the body, as all executive power is vested with the commission which comprises Chairman and Member and not in the Chairman alone,” the former JSSSC Chairman said.

In the absence of a functional JSSSC, various departments like Police and Agriculture are now engaging recruitment agencies to appoint the necessary staff in different ranks for them.

While the Home Department has roped in Merit Track, a private consultant, to conduct written test to recruit around 1000 sub-inspectors, Agriculture department has invited expression of interest from national level agencies to appoint about 2000 village-level workers to oversee implementation of development works.

Chief Minister Arjun Munda said that the rules for functioning of the JSSSC would be finalised and duly notified by the month end to empower the body for launching the recruitment drives.
