Chandigarh: Taking an important step towards making Chandigarh an e-Governed city, the UT administration has decided to electronically disburse monthly salaries to its 18,000 employees from this month.

The move will ensure that money is credited into the accounts of employees at once and they won’t have to wait for clearance of cheques, which takes two days at least. Also, the employees will be informed about the salary credit to their accounts immediately through SMS.

“The following move has been taken after the successful implementation of the e-Governance initiative in three departments. The initial success encouraged us to implement the electronic disbursal of salaries on a larger scale,” UT Finance Secretary VK Singh said.

In another decision, The Chandigarh administration has also decided that all its departments will make electronic payment to contractors for all projects.

“The step will ensure that there is greater transparency in the dealings of all departments. All these initiatives will help the city become the first city which is completely e-Governed,” Singh said.
