Rs 100,000 Cr is the estimated overall cost of the Digital India programme.
Chandigarh: Soon people in the Indian state of Punjab will be able to register property and land online as part of a new project to be rolled out by the state revenue department.
The revenue department has already completed a pilot project in two districts of SAS Nagar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, and aims to expand the project to all the districts by 2013.
According to the department, a buyer will request for the registration of land or property by sending an e-mail to the portal of Punjab Land Record Society. The Land Record Society will then issue a password through e-mail.
The details of the property will be filled by the buyer on the portal along with the text of registration of document, after getting the password.
The stamp duty will be calculated by software, and then challan number of deposit of stamp duty will be shown on the browser.
The registration authority will check the document, which is submitted through e-mail, and keeps the right to accept or reject it. Authenticating the document, the authority will give a print out of the registration to the buyer after depositing the registration fee.
By October this year, Mohali will be the first district in the state to implement this project, which is expected to streamline coordination with the banks for online deposit of stamp duty and registration fee.
