Record rooms of 11 tehsils in four districts of Orissa would be modernised under the National Land Records Modernisation Program (NLRMP). Record rooms of 11 tehsils will be modernised at the cost 25 lakh each for systematic management of the land records and their easy retrieval, state Revenue and Disaster Management Department Additional Secretary Kalika Prasad Dash said.

New Delhi: Record rooms of 11 tehsils in four districts of Orissa would be modernised under the National Land Records Modernisation Program (NLRMP) soon.

"Record rooms of 11 tehsils will be modernised at the cost 25 lakh each for systematic management of the land records and their easy retrieval," state Revenue and Disaster Management Department Additional Secretary Kalika Prasad Dash said.

The 11 Tehsils that will be covered under the project are of Cuttack, Ganjam, Khurda and Keonjhar district.

"This year we have still not received the funds for NLRMP from centre and we will be managing the record rooms' modernisation project from the previous year's budget,' he said adding that last year Rs 9.24 crore were allocated to them under scheme.

Under the project a large number of old land records that are kept in record rooms at tehsil Offices would be digitised. As a result records will be available to needy as and when required.

This project will also dispose of the records that have outlived their purpose and have to be taken out of record room.

Dash said, "Major focus of the project will on indexing and storage of records so that it does not pose any problem to the common public when they want to retrieve any record as per their requirement."

Computerisation of Land Records project has been launched in Orissa with financial assistance of Government of India. So far computerisation and data entry work in 172 tehsils has been completed in the state.

The modernised tehsils have stared offering certified copies of records to the citizens at prescribed fee.  Till now around Rs.5.32 crores have been collected as fees for providing computerised services.
