Govt IT spending in India to reach $7.2 bn by 2015
In its bid to provide easy access to public utility services, the Maharashtra Government has floated the request for proposal (RFP) for setting up 8,209 Common Service Centers (CSC)—Mahasetu—by 2008.
The RFP that closes on December 14, 2007 has invited corporates, societies, trusts, consortium, and NGOs to participate as Service Center Agencies (SCA) to set up, operate and manage a minimum of 7,285 rural and 924 urban Mahasetu centers across Maharashtra on a public private partnership (PPP) model.
As per the RFP, 20 per cent completion and rollout of CSCs should take place within 7.75 months, 50 per cent completion and rollout of CSCs within nine months and 23 days, 75 per cent completion and rollout of CSCs within 11 months and 23 days, and 100 per cent completion and rollout of CSCs within 14 days and 23 days.
The CSCs would offer a multitude of services ranging in the areas of e-Governance, like like land records, vehicle registration, issuance of certificates and government schemes, ration cards, electoral services, pension schemes, public grievance.
It would also offer services ranging from education, health, agriculture, commercial and retail, besides commercial services like Web surfing, photocopy, DTP, e-mail, games and e-commerce.
