Punjab plans 100 dairies to promote dairy farming

Patiala: In an effort to promote dairy farming in the state, the Government of Punjab will open 100 commercial dairies to increase milk production, thus paving the way for White Revolution. Announcing this initiative, the Cooperation Minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh said that more than 250 applications for setting up such dairies had been received. Mentioning that Patiala Milk Plant received 45 applications against which 29 commercial dairies had been set up, he asked the general managers of milk plants, district registrars and joint registrars of cooperative department to visit villages to promote the dairy project. According to the state government, Milkfed is holding a workshop in collaboration with representative of the National Dairy Development Board, progressive dairy farmers and milk societies of Milkfed on February 25, 2008. It states that an action plan would be chalked out at the workshop and would be implemented immediately. Meanwhile, on unbundling of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB), Capt Singh said centre's policy on how the electricity boards would be benefited in an unbundled form was not convincing. —iGovernment Bureau
