Under BSUP, DPRs from 61 Mission Cities have so far been approved with total project cost of Rs 17,421.11 crore with central share of Rs 8,761.03 crore covering 787,111 dwelling units. The IHSDP was launched in December 2005 with a view to ameliorate the conditions of the urban slum dwellers who are residing in dilapidated conditions, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation informed. According to the Ministry, the existing Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY) and the discontinued National Slum Development Programme (NSDP) are subsumed in the IHSDP. The programme covers all the towns except the 63 mission towns and cities covered under the Basic Services for the Urban Poor (BSUP) under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), the Ministry added. The BSUP was launched in December 2005 with a view to ameliorate the conditions of the urban slum dwellers who are residing in dilapidated conditions in the identified 63 mission cities. Both the programme aims at achieving holistic slum development with a healthy and enabling urban environment by providing adequate shelter and basic infrastructure facilities to the urban slum dwellers, the Ministry said. —iGovernment Bureau
