New Delhi: In a bid to bring in transparency in awarding contracts and maintain quality in construction works, Kerala Government is introducing e-Tendering and would bring in 'people's supervision',  PWD minister TM Thomas Issac said on Friday.

The prime objective behind the initiative was to bring in efficiency in executing works and also to eliminate corruption in the Public Works Department.

A mechanism with the cooperation of local people to monitor the quality of the construction work would be put in place, Issac said.

Another major policy decision was stopping the practice of revising the work of contract amount through tender-excess, he said. The process of tender-excess was one of the main areas for corruption in the department, he said.

Officials would be given permission to go for re-tendering in case of need for revision of contract amount, he said.
