Syed Ahmad named new Jharkhand Governor

Syed Ahmad, a five-time Congress legislator from Mumbais Nagpada constituency, will take over as the new Governor of Jharkhand. He will succeed MOH Farook, who has been transferred to Kerala. A notification to this effect was issued by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on Friday.

A PhD in Urdu and Master of Arts in English and Hindi, Ahmad has been associated with the Indian National Congress since 1977.

Talking to the iGovernment from Mumbai, he said that as the Governor of Jharkhand he would strive for keeping up the dignity of the post in conformity to the Constitution.
