Chandigarh: Giving a big relief to the owners of commercial vehicles in the state, the Punjab government has decided to accept all kinds of taxes on these vehicles through online payment system only. This system has come into force from October 20.

The online payment of taxes on commercial vehicles has been implemented in Punjab as part of e-Governance project implementation in the state.

“The online payment of taxes would not only entail public convenience but would also look into the misappropriation of government revenue,” State Transport Secretary Anurag Aggarwal said.

“We have decided that we would not accept tax on these vehicles manually. We have also opened special centers, all across the state, to facilitate people for this purpose,” Aggarwal stated.

State government has imparted special training to its employees to disseminate knowledge about online payment of taxes.

Punjab is already following the practice of online payment of taxes, of private vehicles, and issuance of registration numbers online.
