Jharkhand to roll out e-Ration Card project

Consumers availing the benefits of the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Jharkhand will have e-Ration cards soon. The Food and Civil Supplies Department has given its nod to the proposal of offering e-Ration Cards to the consumers after the successful run of a pilot project at Ranchi.

Ranchi: Consumers availing the benefits of the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Jharkhand will have e-Ration cards soon.

The Food and Civil Supplies Department has given its nod to the proposal of offering e-Ration Cards to the consumers after the successful run of a pilot project at Ranchi.

Food and Civil Supplies Department Principal Secretary Rajbala Verma said the department has proposed to offer 65 lakh e-Ration Cards to the beneficiaries across the State in phases that will start early next year.

“We will soon invite the expression of interest of agencies, which have the capability and resources to prepare the e-Ration cards very soon,” she said.
 
Parallel to it, the department is also planning to connect all 26,000 PDS shops with Internet facilities and equip them with computers.
