TN to set up national law school

The Tamil Nadu government has proposed to set up a national law school in the state to disseminate quality legal education. The school to be set up on lines of Bangalore-based National Law School of India will impart knowledge of legal processes, advocacy and skill in judicial administration.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has proposed to set up a national law school in the state to disseminate quality legal education.

The school to be set up on lines of Bangalore-based National Law School of India will impart knowledge of legal processes, advocacy and skill in judicial administration.

The Tamil Nadu National Law School Bill, 2012, was introduced in the Assembly by Law, Courts and Prison Minister C Ve Shanmugam on Monday.

"The state government has decided to establish a national level institution in the state to disseminate learning and knowledge of law, legal processes, advocacy and skill in judicial administration, keeping pace with the changing global scenario," the Bill said.

The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court will be the Chancellor of the school, it said.
The national institution will have reserved seats for residents of Tamil Nadu, Scheduled Castes including Arunthathiyars, Scheduled Tribes, Most Backward Classes, Backward Classes and Backward Class Muslims and other categories, it said.
