Hyderabad: GE Energy and Reliance Power will jointly expand and commission a new 2,400-megawatt power plant in Samalkot, a city located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Reliance Power has selected GE’s power generation technology for the Samalkot Power Plant project, which is touted to be the largest gas turbine combined-cycle project in India.

As per the contract, GE will supply six Frame 9FA Gas Turbines, three D-11 Steam Turbines, and provide installation, training and performance testing services for the project.

The 9FA Gas Turbine combined-cycle blocks, part of GE’s family of Frame F turbines, will be run by natural gas.

GE India President and CEO John Flannery said with these gas turbines at the Samalkot site, Reliance is closer to its objectives of powering up the power-starved Southern region of India.

GE will remotely monitor the functioning of the power plant 24x7 from its operation centers in Bangalore and Atlanta, US.

GE has also signed a 15-year contractual service agreement for the Samalkot project to provide customers with predictable maintenance costs, while ensuring a steady flow of revenue from power plant operations.
