India to set up design institute in Bhopal

The institute will impart education in design, applied research, training, design consultancy services and outreach programmes

New Delhi: The Government of India will set up a design education campus of National Institute of Design (NID) in Bhopal for imparting education in design, applied research, training, design consultancy services and outreach programmes.

The campus spread in 12 hectare, in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGTU), will foster design-technology initiative in Bhopal and help potential students of RGTU to opt design as high education career option, a Ministry of Commerce and Industry release said.

The NID is one of the premier institutions in the field of design and has been recognised as a scientific and industrial research organisation, and is among the top ranking design schools of Europe and Asia established in 1961 as an autonomous body.

A one-year certificate programme on design for engineering and technology will commence during June 2010 and two-year PG programme from June 2011, from the new campus.
