Bihar land records to go online from June

It will help people cross-check the history of a property before striking a land deal

Patna: Land possession certificate (LPC) with details of ownership will be available online soon, enabling the people to go for cross-checks about the history of the property before striking a land deal.

The Revenue Department is piloting the project as part of the computerisation of land records and will launch the facility in 10 districts by June end. It will be extended to other 28 districts by September.

The districts selected in the first phase include Patna, Nalanda, Buxar, West Champaran, East Champaran, Vaishali, Nawada, and Bhojpur.

That apart, people will also be able to download maps carrying details of the location of their land and adjoining areas.

Revenue officials said the easy availability of LPC through the net would prove to be a safeguard for lakh of people who often fall victims to land-related fraud due to lack of information about the ownership of land.

“There are umpteen cases where brokers or middlemen have duped their customers by selling one piece of land to three or four different people. Such instances can be checked if people verify the land records by procuring the LPC,” a senior Revenue officer said.
