Community Radio Station to start in Tamil Nadu

Community Radio Station at M Kumarasamy College of Engineering, Karur inTamil Nadu will be 65 th in the country

New Delhi: India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has signed a Grant of Permission Agreement for establishing, maintaining and operating a Community Radio Station (CRS) at M Kumarasamy College of Engineering, Karur inTamil Nadu.
 
Letter of Intent had been issued to the institute after recommendations of Inter Ministerial Committee and seeking requisite clearances from various Ministries.

The Community Radio Station is expected to be operational within three months as per the agreement. With this, the number of CRS will increase to 65 in the country.

The M Kumarsamy College of Engineering was established in the year 2000. The aim of setting up of Community Radio Station is to promote and provide education to the economically backward people and create awareness among the local community on child and human rights, culture and tradition, health hazards etc.

The Ministry encourages setting up of Community Radio Station, as it promises to provide an opportunity to the local communities to express themselves, share their views and particularly empower the youth and women.
