I have to visit Georgia. My passport has been issued on dated 13-2-2009 from Patna office.

So please give me feedback that ECNR is required or not. There is no stamp on my passport.

My passport has a page ECNR required where I got stamped ECNR Not Required from the passport Office but my wife and daughter has been recently issued passports where there is no page for ECNR. Does it mean that they are automatically in the category ECNR Not Required? Please reply as I am planning to visit Malaysia & Singapore for tourism next month.

I have been given to understand that ECNR is not required w.e.f 1st Oct., All the same in your article above it is stated that it is required for gulf countries. My Cousine is traveling to Dubai on 19th January 2008 on visit visa, so i am confused whether he has to do the ECNR or not. Please advice.

I intend to travel Thailand for a week. My passport does not have ECNR stamp. I possess a valid return ticket with me and VIsa will be obtained on arrival in Thailand.

DO I need to get ECR suspended from POE before visiting ? Else I can travel on the same passport witout ECR suspension.

With the new regulations in effect, I've come to know that people holding professional degrees are not required to get an ECNR status even if they are traveling to the Gulf countries for employment purposes. Is this true?

Thanks for asking the question as it helped us take a fresh look at the report and amend a major error that had creped in (see corrected version above).

We also sought clarification from the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and according to Emigration Division Director (EP) Dr Ranbir Singh, “From October 1, 2007 the ECR passport holders can travel abroad on tourist/visit visa without obtaining ECR Suspension (ECRS) from the Protector of Emigrants (POE).”

“What the government means by abolition of ECRS is that ECR passport holders will not need to go to POE at all,” Singh clarified adding that, “However, they will have to produce return ticket (apart from passport and visa) at the immigration counter.”

ECR passport holders travelling on employment/work visa will, however, have to obtain emigration clearance from the POE as usual.

I travel frequently overseas for official visits... recently i renewed my passport due to shortage of pages... my first passport got ECR and submitted required documents and deleted, 2nd passport issues without any ECR or ECNR status... now while renew, they put ECR stamp on it... I understand after 1st OCT 07 there is no value for ECR or ECNR especially for non employment visit to anywhere! while travel none of the immigration staff ask for such info... but just to keep myself clear please advise.

Sir, i am presently working in Sudan and my wife has to join me here for some months. She has a valid passport made in August 2009 and doesnot have either a ECR OR ECNR Stamp. Please guide me whether she is allowed to travel on that passport with visa on arrival at Sudan or she has to get the ECNR stamp on her passport as Sudan is one of the countries listed for where Emigration clearance is required.

I want to go to abroad on company assignment along with my wife.Both of us are having Passport and also the name of each other are endorsed in each other passport.Is still marriage certificate is required to get the valid visa?
