Haryana plans insurance for anganwari workers

Haryana has decided to implement Future Security Scheme of Insurance for Anganwari workers in the state.

Chandigarh: The Government of Haryana has decided to implement Future Security Scheme of Insurance for Anganwari workers in the state.

Stating this, the Haryana Women and Child Development Minister Kartar Devi said that under this scheme, the government would invest Rs 100 per month per Anganwari worker for insurance through Life Insurance Corporation of India.

She further said that those Anganwari workers , who have completed one year of service as on January 1, 2008, would be covered under the scheme and they would be offered a sum assured to the tune of Rs 50,000 in a uniform manner.

The Minster said that the risk premium would form 17 per cent and the saving part would be 83 per cent of the contribution of Rs 100 per month.

Meanwhile, Devi said that under another scheme there was a plan to construct three Anganwari centres in each block every year.

"In the beginning, while constructing buildings for Anganwari centres, priority would be given to those Anganwari centres which were being run in rented accommodation and homes of relatives of Anganwari workers," she added.

The Minister said that at present there were 13,546 Anganwari centres functioning in the state, of which, 13,033 centres were in rural areas.

She further added that as many as 1,072 Anganwari centres had their own constructed buildings, whereas 545 centres were under construction.

The Minister added that as many as 1,795 Anganwari centres were being run in rented buildings and 1,841 in homes of relatives of Anganwari Workers.
