Haryana's Sirsa district villages to go online

All villages will have working stations equipped with Internet facility provided under the Backward Area Grant Fund Scheme

Chandigarh: After going in for the country's first solar streetlights project in Sirsa, the state government has now decided to set up Rajiv Gandhi Service Centers in all villages of the district and bring them online via the Internet facility for better execution of the developmental schemes.

“Around Rs 25 lakh will be spent on setting up of Rajiv Gandhi Service Centre at the block level and Rs 10 lakh at the village level,” an official spokesperson said.

Apart from computer operators, employment assistant of the NREGA will also work in these centers. At these centers, the villagers will be able to know about all the welfare schemes of the state government and can also avail the facilities they are entitled to, the spokesperson said.

In Sirsa, the government wants to bring transparency in various schemes and development works being implemented there. For this purpose computers with Internet facility will be made available in all the villages under the Backward Area Grant Fund Scheme.

“Initially under the scheme, as many as 70 computers are being made available to different panchayats of the district. In each block, 10 panchayts are being provided with computers equipped with all facilities,” the spokesperson said.

Once these centres are operational, the panchayats could send a day-to-day report of development works carried out in the villages to district administration and headquarters through e-mail.

In this way the higher officials would have a close watch on the development works carried out in the villages and they could also inspect the quality of work.

He said teachers of Devilal University will impart training to the members of Panchayati Raj Institutions under the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA Scheme for the purpose.
