Monday 13 February 2012 Government 2.0: The Road Ahead
India to conduct mega solar project demo

India has announced a demonstration programme to support mega watt size grid interactive solar power generation projects, up to a maximum capacity of 50 MW.

New Delhi: The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in India has announced a demonstration programme to support mega watt size grid interactive solar power generation projects, up to a maximum capacity of 50 MW, in the country.

According to the Ministry, any registered company, as project developer, would be eligible to set up solar power projects on build, own and operate basis.

The Ministry further said that proposal from each project developer with a maximum aggregate capacity of 5 MW, either through a single project or multiple projects of a minimum capacity of 1 MW each, would be considered.

It further added that a maximum of 10 MW capacity solar power generation projects would be considered in a state, while giving preference to the projects from the states where the State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs) have announced or are in the process of announcing tariff for solar power.

For the projects approved and commissioned by December 31, 2009, the Ministry will provide generation-based incentive up to Rs 12 per kWh for solar photovoltaic power and Rs 10 per kWh for solar thermal power fed to the grid by the solar power project developers, after taking in to account the tariff provided by the SERC or the utility.

The Ministry will also provide incentive to the concerned utility and the state nodal agency, which will be involved in implementation and monitoring of the projects in that state.

Meanwhile, the Ministry informed that a total of 33 grid interactive solar photovoltaic power plants have been installed in the country with financial support from the government.

It stated that these plants, with aggregate capacity of 2.12 MW, are estimated to generate about 2.55 million units of electricity in a year.

In addition, around 14.5 lakh decentralised off-grid solar photovoltaic systems aggregating to about 125 MW capacity have been installed in the country, which is capable of generating about 150 million units in a year, the Ministry said.

The government has taken several measures to reduce the cost of solar energy systems, which include research and development to improve their performance and reduce the consumption of materials and subsidy on selected solar energy systems.

These also includes interest subsidy to provide soft loan to users and the manufacturers; concessional or nil import duty on some of the raw materials, components and products; excise duty exemption; and 80 per cent accelerated depreciation in the first year.

Dear Sirs,

We have developed a Solar Panel of 2.4 Kilowatts power, which would be able to generate Electricity to run the following household equipments.

·

8 Fans
· 8 Tubelights
· One Computer + Printer
· One TV + DVD Player
· A Fridge of 165 litre capacity
· A Washing Machine for two hours.

We have priced this around Rs. 87500 + 3 Batteries Cost to support the system. Actually we are looking at Rs. 30.00 crore to start developing this system at large scale. Collateral security can be provided for the same.

Please get back to us as early as possible. The product was demonstrated to Institute of Engineers Coimbatore Chapter,on 28-11-2008 and got certified by them. It is patented under World Patent Rights in US on 24th Feb 2009 through Cap Gemini, US.

Certification is awaited from Tamilnadu Energy Development Authority and Ministry of Non- Conventional Energy at the earliest.

We have installed a solar water heater system and unlike what is published ie 2% ,Canara bank is charging 5/6% interest. The procedure is also cumbersome....

The govt should offer the cost to be reduced from IT for 3 years to boost the interest and see the impact...!!!!

We also use surya solar lamp bought from gujrath for the last 5 years with excellent performance.4/5 hours of chr, ging on the window yeilds 3 hours of 11 watt power....
and when the whole society has no power , we have some.... to help ......

Primarily the banks should be told to preach and practsie & we as people who have experience should spread the good word in the interest of human race....[/quote]

Initial investment in Solar power Project is comparatively very high,
Cost of 1MW Project is Approx. Rs. 2500 Lacs

I am interested in promoting solar based power plant as one of my client Society "RROWS" wanted to install roof top Grid interactive SPV power Plant of capacity of 50 KWp to 100 KWp at Madhurwada Visakhapatnam, AP, India.

Solar array so arranged should have arrangement to regulate manually the direction of array at least trice a day to ensure optimum taping of solar energy (at least 9 Hrs a day)

I am also interested to know the cost to setup 20 MW capacity SPV solar power plant under woman entrepreneur scheme.

I want to know about the total cost of setting up a 20 mw solar power plant.

Its really good idea to use solar heater,in every delveloped country also useing this system and it is effective. i realise that people are useing more than 40%of energy in heating.so why not goverment should interfere and make it possible as early as possible, its should be not `zero-based budget`.All tall bulding everywhere in india, make it permenant, without that dont allow people to build a building, even in resident area too.B`use we are far behind thanother country we need some stimulus to improve our infrastructure, still we are living in old fashion with lots of pollution and population.
Thank you

It may be adviced Goverment of India should introduce 50% subsidy and state Goverments should give 20% to enable many people avial the products effectively. If more users productions proportionally increase at less cost.

Thanks for the info.

The Govt may take many other measures to enhance the use of solar energy which is abundantly available to India.
The govt may decide to make it comlupsoury for all builders to instal individual Solar water heaters in each independant House built by them. Similarly in case of Multi story buildings a colletive solar heater can be made compulsoury. A cpacity of about 200 liters per family will be a good begining.
At present builders donot allow the flat buyers to use the roofs. But they may be asked to allow the use of roof for solar energy cllectors only.
The existing residents can be permitted to instal their own systems if they so desire.
This will bring following benefits:
Saving of electricity.
Keeping the homes cooler.
Reduce pollution.
Better home economics.
Some body may even think of moving the Supreme Court of India by PIL.
