Madhya Pradesh liberalises RTO ops

Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in India to implement a dealer point registration system, thereby empowering vehicle dealers with powers for registration of vehicles.

Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in India to implement a dealer point registration system, thereby empowering vehicle dealers with powers for registration of vehicles.

The state has also introduced online tax payment system that would help the state's 500,000-odd vehicle owners directly pay taxes without rounds of road transport office (RTO) and banks for the same.

"Besides saving vehicle owners time and need for travel, this would also greatly help weed out corruption," Madhya Pradesh Minister for Transport Himmat Kothari said.

Liberalising RTO services, the state government further decentralised the powers to issue driving licenses by authorising the principals of higher secondary school and colleges to issue learning licenses to students and to people in their respective areas.
