Orissa to set up Child Rights Commission soon

The six-member commission would take up cases related to child rights violations

Bhubaneswar: The Orissa government will soon set up a Child Rights Commission, an official said here on Friday.

The decision was taken after a class 6 student of George High School of Bargarh district, Ajay Kumar Jena, was killed on February 16 after being beaten by a school teacher.

"The state government has decided to set up a Child Rights Commission soon. The proposed commission would ensure the rights of children. The commission would register complaints related to child rights," Women and Child Development Department Secretary GVV Sharma said.

The commission would have six members including two women. The commission would take up cases related to child rights violations, reports IANS.
