Patna police launches GIS to track criminals

The new system has helped the police in detecting and solving about 50 cases in Patna during the past 18 months

Patna: The Bihar Police have introduced Geographical Information System (GIS) to track down notorious gangsters involved in organised crime in and around Patna.

The system, which is being manned by a team of experts, has so far yielded tangible results, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Bachchu Singh Meena said.

The SSP said the new system has helped the police in detecting and solving about 50 cases in Patna during the past 18 months. The GIS is so sensitive that police can locate criminals' hideouts, he added.

This system is being manned round the clock by five SIs and two dozen constables to keep a tab on criminal activities, Meena said. The device has been keeping a watch over 46 police stations in the district.

City SP Manu Maharaj has been asked to monitor the new system. Additional Director General (Headquarters) PK Thakur said that the system would be introduced in other districts later on.
