Puducherry seeks NABARD help for education sector

The funds would be utilised for construction of 644 classrooms and 414 toilets for elementary, secondary and higher secondary schools

New Delhi: Government of Puducherry will approach National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for loan to the extent of Rs 100 crore under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund.

The funds would be utilised for construction of 356 classrooms in Puducherry, 140 in Karaikal, 20 in Mahe and 128 in Yanam totaling 644 classrooms and 414 toilets for elementary, secondary and higher secondary schools in the Union Territory, Puducherry Chief Minister V Vaithiligam said.

He also informed the Assembly that Satellite Interactive Terminals (SIT) were installed in 21 government schools and e-learning is being effected through EduSat satellite.

He added, “ In the coming financial year 169 schools will be covered under ICT @ School Programme and  under SSA, all schools will be provided with computers in the UT.”

He also informed the assembly that a proposal for the establishment of a National Institute of Technology in Puducherry is under the active consideration of the central government.
