Chandigarh: The PWD department in Punjab will soon be adopting the e-tendering and e-procurement way of doing business to bring about more transparency and accountability in the functioning of the department.
The initiative is part of the state government's plan of introducing e-procurement in the state, reports Punjab Newsline.
According to the Punjab PWD (Bridge &Road) Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, the Department has been included in the first phase of computerization by the Department of IT and is expected to log on to e-tendering and e-procurement system from January 2008.
The report further states that the Punjab Government has decided that all works above Rs one crore would essentially be tendered electronically from January 15, 2008 onwards.
The computerization of PWD (B&R) is also a part of World Bank funded Punjab State Road Sector Project and a budget of Rs 15 crore has been earmarked for the same.
The project that includes systems for works management, financial management, personnel management, office automation, messaging and file tracking etc is expected to be completed by June 2008, the report stated.
Besides, it also includes applications like GIS based Road Information System and Road Asset Management System.
