Ranchi AIIMS to become operational next month

The 1000-bed super speciality hospital, equipped with the facilities at par with AIIMS, Delhi is among the seven proposed AIIMSs in the country

Ranchi: The much-awaited 1000-bed super speciality hospital, equipped with the facilities at par with the All India Institute Medical Sciences (AIIMS), will finally become operational at Ranchi next month, if everything goes as par the state government’s plan.

Ranchi’s super-speciality hospital, also known as regional AIIMS, is among the seven similar hospitals proposed in the country. Patna, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Bhopal, Rishikesh and Raipur are the other cities were regional AIIMS has been planned.

Situated in the sprawling campus of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Bariatu locality of the State capital, the Rs 120 crore hospital would be of great help for the patients suffering from cancer, renal disease, cardiac malfunctioning and kids requiring specialised surgery.

The centre has already despatched critical medical equipments worth over Rs 50 crore to be installed in different departments of the hospital.

Apart from oncology, the regional AIIMS will have separate departments for urology, nephrology, cardiology, cardiac surgery and paediatric surgery at the initial stage of its operation.

RIMS governing body, under whose control the new super speciality hospital will become functional, has gave its nod for appointment of doctors and other staff members.

“The process for creation of posts has begun in consultation with the Health Department,” RIMS Director Tulsi Mahato said.
