Ranchi varsity placement cell goes hi-tech

The varsity has upgraded the job alert mechanism for its students who will now be getting alerts about jobs through SMSs and e-mails

Ranchi: Ranchi University’s (RU) placement cell has turned hi-tech. In keeping with the increase in visits by corporate houses for campus selection, the varsity has upgraded the job alert mechanism for its students.

Phasing out the conventional way of letters, the job aspirants of professional and vocational courses will now be getting alerts about jobs through SMSs and e-mails.

Over the past three months, as many as 113 students have been placed with various companies including Sterlite Technology (a unit of Vedanta group), Thyrocare Technologies and Genpact.

RU Vice-Chancellor AA Khan said that the placement cell has developed a database of the students who were enrolled with the unit till July.

Resumes of college students of different streams including those of the business management, engineering and other professional and vocational courses are also being put on the cell’s website for the recruiters.

The university officials are in touch with web developers to work out technical nitty-gritty for an exclusive website of its placement cell. Presently, the placement cell is operating with the RU’s website.

“The cell will submit a detailed proposal in this regard. We will soon get in touch with service provider on how to ahead with the launch of the website,” Khan said adding that a separate website of the cell would be launched in a month or two.

RU placement cell Chairman Pro-VC  V P Sharan said: “We are content with the fact that the cell constituted in May saw to it that over a hundred students made it to the final selection. In future, when we have a website, we hope to reach a bigger figure.”
