iGovernment started out as India’s first interactive web platform and info-portal for knowledge sharing amongst all stakeholders involved in the “Integrated approach towards Good Governance”. While the ‘i’ in iGovernment stands for the critical component of an integrated approach toward all government transactions—G2G, G2C or G2B—it also relates to IT-enabled, information-based, intelligent government and Internet-enabled citizen service delivery. It is in these areas that iGovernment seeks to enable good governance by attempting to fill crucial gaps in peer-to-peer learning and capacity building amongst policy makers, judiciary, bureaucrats, academia, the not-for-profit sector/NGOs and the vendor community across India, including those in other public services.
The attempt is to do this through four basic approaches: by facilitating information exchange on policies, strategies, best practices, innovations and use of technology in improving governance through regular news updates, reports, interviews, columns and case studies; by building a platform for online discussion and deliberation on issues and challenges related to “Good Governance” and “IT for Development”; by creating opportunities for face-to-face interaction and knowledge sharing amongst all stakeholders on "Good Governance" and "IT for Development" through seminars, conferences and focused workshops; and by providing consultancy in e-Governance and development project implementation by government departments, civil societies, NGOs and corporate houses.
